The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and the Korea Meteorological Administration held a workshop on "Improving the Utilization of Meteorological Observation in the Agricultural Sector" for a joint project at the Halla Building of the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences (NIMS) in Jeju-do at 10 a.m. on September 22.

This joint workshop was attended by about 70 experts from academic, public and research institutions including KREI and NIMS for cooperation for future food securement and adaptation technology to climate change. They made presentations and had discussions on the global crop outlook, crop situation outlook models, the use of weather data for agricultural monitoring, cooperation strategies for adaptation technology to climate change and so on.

KREI President Kim Changgil said, "It is important to forecast yields per unit area based on meteorological information in terms of preemptive agricultural supply-demand measures and stabilization. I expect that this joint workshop will lead to the establishment of a research cooperation system with each institution and mutual synergy effects."
