Wrap-Up Session of In-Depth Discussions on New Strategy for Agricultural Policy

 

 

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) recently held a wrap-up session of in-depth discussions on new strategy for agricultural policy. The wrap-up session, titled "New Strategy for Agricultural Policy: Mid- and Long-Term Direction and Tasks," was held on October 25 at the New Millenium Hall in Konkuk University. It was the final gathering of in-depth discussions that were held on seven occasions since August. At the opening ceremony, Lee Dong-Phil, KREI president, made the opening remarks and Lee Sang-Gil, assistant vice minister for food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, delivered a congratulatory message. Kim Jeong-Ho, senior researcher at KREI, delivered a keynote speech in which he said the severity of recent stagnation in agriculture and rural economy is at a serious level and that to make a breakthrough from the current situation it is necessary to develop and implement more tailor-made agricultural policies as a mid- and long-term strategy.

 

A general discussion followed after the speech, presided over by Professor Seo Jong-Seok of Chonnam University. Participating in the discussion as panelists were Kim Ja-Hye, director general of Consumers Korea, Kim Hyun-Dae, senior reporter of Hankyoreh, Park Min-Sun, Prof. at Agricultural Cooperative College, Yang Seung-Ryong, Prof. at Korea University, Yoon Won-Keun, Prof. at Hyupsung University, Lee Jun-Won, rural policy director at Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Lee Tae-Ho, Prof. at Seoul National University, Yim Young-Ju, director of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Bureau at the Jeollanam-do provincial office, Chung Ki-Hwan, executive director of Kookmin Agricultural Forum, and Cho Yong-Rae, editorial writer of Kukmin Ilbo.
