The inauguration ceremony of Lee Dong Phil as the 12th president of Korea Rural Economic Institute was held on October 10 at the conference hall of the research institute. In his inaugural address, the new president stressed that the institute's responsibility lies on presenting new agricultural policy alternatives and forming consensus for the nation's development and the people. He said that if the institute is to grow during difficult times, it is important to regain sense of identity and lift up the institute's status as the national research institute for agricultural policy.
The new president unveiled five tasks to achieve during his presidency: first, realign the research organization and seek transparent and objective management to present national tasks and field-centered policy alternatives; second, improve the practicality and efficiency of research by strengthening research planning and administrative support through flexible process; third, support timely, field-centered policies by sharing related information and strengthening public opinion surveys; fourth, make the best use of research results by strengthening research cooperation at home and abroad and by facilitating communication with policy clients throughout the year; and fifth, procure young people in various fields, cultivate expertise, and build up a dynamic organizational culture that places emphasis on the researcher's passion and self-esteem and team work.
The president said that in order to achieve the goals and raise the institute's status, he will play the role of a leader, coordinator, and supporter internally and build up the trust with the government, the academia and the industry. President Lee also urged all the staff to unite and work hard to turn the current crisis into an opportunity and transform the research institute into a beacon of hope for Korean agriculture and rural communities.
