International Symposium on Distribution of Organic Products





     The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted an international symposium on distribution of organic produce on Sept. 29 at the auditorium of Namyangju City's 2nd office building. KREI Vice President Kwon Tae-Jin delivered the opening speech and Katherine DiMatteo, president of International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), delivered a keynote speech on strategies to innovate the distribution and develop organic agriculture.  


   The symposium was held in two sessions. The speakers and their topics of presentation were as follows:

 


- Heike Kirsten (director of Rapunzel, Germany), strategy for global outsourcing and market distribution of organic agricultural produce
- Koh Doo-Shin (director of the eco-friendly distribution center run by Seoul Agricultural and Marine Products Corp.), school catering improvement to stimulate consumption of organic agricultural produce
- Kim Chang-Gil (KREI researcher), consumption trends of organic agricultural produce in Korea and marketing strategy


- Kim Soung-Hun (professor of Chungnam National University), current distribution state of eco-friendly agricultural produce and how to improve its efficiency
- Park Sung-Jik (chair of 'Korean Association of Environment-Friendly Agriculture'),  current state of the organic agricultural produce market and Nonghyup's strategies to stimulate the market
- Gerald A. Herrmann (director of Organic Services GmbH, Germany), consumption trends of world organic agricultural produce: the case of Europe
- Francis Blake (president of COSMOS-standard AISBL, UK) and LaRhea Pepper (senior director of Textile Exchange, US), future prospects of inorganic agricultural produce (cosmetics, textiles) in the global market


   General discussions were held presided by Director-General Suh Chong-Hyuk  of the Korea Organizing Committee for the 17th IFOAM Organic World Congress. The general discussions were participated by Marco Schlueter, IFOAM EU Director, Prof. Yoo Duck-Ki of Dongguk University, Heinz Kuhlmann, representative of BioFach Japan, Lee Jung-Hyung, head of Environment-Friendly Agriculture Division of the Korean ministry of agriculture, and Kim Jung-Han, head of Agricultural Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province.
