International Symposium on World Grain Market Trend and Overseas Agricultural Development


 

 
  The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and Seoul National University (SNU) jointly hosted an international symposium on August 25th at the KREI conference hall to discuss regional strategy for overseas agricultural development for food security. 

   The keynote speakers and their presentation topics were as follows: Kim Yong-Taek (KREI senior research fellow), current situation and tasks of Korea's overseas agricultural development; Brian Buhr (professor and head of applied economics at the University of Minnesota), international grain trade and distribution; Seiji Mitsuishi (professor at Miyagi University School of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences), Japan's experience of overseas agricultural development - Zenno and private trading companies; and Sao Chivoan (undersecretary of state, Cambodian Ministry of Rural Development), overseas agricultural investment and development in Cambodia. 

   The general discussions were presided by Kim Wan-Bae, professor of SNU. The panelists were Kim Han-Ho (professor of SNU), Woo Sung-Shik (director of Univera), Lee Eun-Soo (director of overseas projects, Korea Rural Community Corporation), Lee Cherl-Ho (chairman of Korea Food Security Research Foundation), and Ju Won-Chul (director of international development cooperation at the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries).
