Agricultural, Forestry, Fishery Workers Grew by 61,000 People Year on Year; More Employment Inducement Policies Needed

KREI Held Policy Forum on Recent Employment Trend in Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Challenges


Despite the high number of the total unemployed people in Korea, the number of people employed in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries increased by 61,000 people year on year, and it is necessary to promote policies for inducing employment in the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors. This content was presented in the policy forum on the “Recent Employment Trend in Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and Challenges” that the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held at Dongja Art Hall, Seoul, September 19.

The forum consisted of the following presentations: “Changes in the Recent Employment Trend in Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and Their Implications” by KREI senior research fellow Ma Sangjin; “Current Status and Tasks of Employment in Agricultural Corporations” by Executive Director Jeong Gisu of the National Agriculture Forum; “Policies for the Influx of the Agricultural Workforce and Challenges” by Deputy Director Jang Mingi of the Center for Food, Agricultural & Rural Policy; and “Employment Status and Youth Fostering Case of Cheongsol” by President Jeong Jaeik of the Cheongsol Organic Farming Association.
