Purpose of Research
○South Korea’s rural areas are undergoing diverse changes compared to the past. While migration from rural to urban areas(‘migration to cities’) was predominant previously, some regions are now experiencing urbanization and population influx. However, significant regional disparities persist. Some rural areas see population growth due to the influx of individuals returning to farming or rural living, whereas others face population decline and extinction risks. Despite developments in various industries and economic activities, concerns about rural extinction remain prevalent. Thus, detailed research focused on the smallest unit of rural communities—villages—is necessary to develop evidence-based policies.
