Purpose of Research
○The 2023 Gangneung wildfire case demonstrated that wildfires in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas can pose a direct threat to residential areas, highlighting the urgent need for wildfire management strategies that reflect the unique characteristics of WUI areas.

○This study aims to identify the characteristics of Korea's Wildland- Urban Interface (WUI) areas and quantify the increased risk of human and property damage due to rising population density and residential expansion through a quantitative analysis.

○By analyzing wildfire risks separately for WUI areas and non-WUI areas (forest interiors), this study seeks to emphasize the necessity of wildfire prevention and management strategies tailored specifically to WUI areas.
