Purpose of Research
○This study defines the qualitative growth of rural industries and the medium to long-term changes based on it as “advanced rural industry development.” As rural industries mostly form “region-based” industries that produce goods and services using agricultural and rural resources of each region, this study analyzes the patterns of qualitative changes in region-based rural industries to derive future development directions or strategies and necessary policy tasks.

○First, the study defines the concept of rural industries and reviews existing discussions related to the promotion and development of rural industries. Second, it examines the concept and characteristics of industrial advancement and compares the main content and limitations of past rural industry promotion policies. Third, the current distribution and characteristics of rural industries and the status of their advancement are analyzed using key data. Fourth, it reviews domestic and international cases of regional rural industries to analyze the progress and problems of advancement in rural areas. Fifth, it presents directions and policy tasks for the advancement of region-based rural industries.
