Purpose of Research
○In Korea, the value of the beekeeping industry has been assessed solely on the basis of the production value of beekeeping products. The pollination value has been excluded from the assessment, which has greatly decreased the value of the industry.
○Also, it has been difficult to secure the foundation for formulating policies for supporting the pollination sector due to insufficient research on the roles and value of the beekeeping industry through pollination in the environment and agricultural production.
○Therefore, it is needed to highlight the value of the industry and emphasize the importance of its pollination function by measuring its pollination value. Based on the measurement, this study aims to reestablish the status of the beekeeping industry in agriculture, and to provide preliminary data necessary to shape policies for building a continual relationship between the industry and agriculture.
Research Methods
○The study reviewed domestic and foreign literature, analyzed statistical data, and utilized beekeeping experts’ advisory meetings and a public survey to analyze the current status of the use of pollinating insects and related policies at home and abroad, and investigated public opinion on the value of pollination.
