The main purpose of this study is to develope a user interface of Rural development Decision making Support System (KREI-RDSS) for end users. However, users have difficulty in accessing and using the decision making support system. We aimed to develop a user interface for KREI-RDSS so that users can easily understand and use KREI-RDSS.
Prior to the development, referring to the case studies of SENSOR SIAT, PLUREL iIAT and SPARD in EU and Atlas of Rural and Small-Town America in the US, we established the basic direction for designing the KREI-RDSS user interface in this study. ① The user interface will be based on Web services for the sake of convenience, and consist of windows and menu for easy understanding. ② Results are provided in the form of graphs and pictures rather than tables and texts. Furthermore, through the WebGIS service, the user interface will be available to spatial understanding of various information. ③ It is designed to enable expansion of more detailed data. ④ In addition, we developed the user interface best for standard and security of our web site, considering the web style guide (WSG), guides for accessibility to web contents prepared in Korean and elimination of 8 vulnerable points led by the ‘Manual for managing security in web sites’.
The KREI-RDSS user interface was developed according to the CBD (Component Based Development) methodology, That is consisted of four main parts: introduction of KREI-RDSS, the decision support information service, the WebGIS service and the information board. The results are provided in the form of linear graphs, pie graphs, and spidergrams. Finally, we illustrated practical use of the user interface system in detail as well.
We expect that this user interface help users operate the KREI-RDSS more easily. A local level decision makers will be able to get a lot of information to need in decision making how to develop their local government through this user interface.
