How to Activate Intermediary Bodies for Rural Social Enterprises

This study was to develop the measures to activate intermediary bodies for social enterprises in rural areas. For the purpose, this study reviewed related theoretical researches on social enterprise intermediary bodies; suveyed 184 rural social enterprises to investigate the capacity building needs, and also surveyed 44 social enterprises intermediary bodies to investigate the current status of their organizational capacity of supporting activities, networks, and needs; and case-studied several rural social enterprise intermediary bodies in korea and european countries including Begium, England, and Spain.
As the results, this study suggested basic direction of activating intermediary bodies for rural social enterprises: vertical cooperating system among central, regional and local government and private sectors and separate stable supporting system rural social enterprises. According to this direction, this study developed the following six measures to activate intermediary bodies for rural social enterprises: ① setting up regional level supporting system, ② organizing local level intermediary bodies, ③ establishing central and regional level rural social enterprise supporting system, ④ setting legal foundation for intermediary bodies, ⑤ public sector's supporting intermediary bodies, ⑥ activating social enterprise's regional or industrial association or consortium.
