The purpose of this study is to review the current situation of private investment in the agro-food sector in Korea and to present several ways of promoting it in the sector. This study analyzes the current status of capital market in the agro-food sector and the characteristics of some capital investments from different financial sources. In addition, this study discusses government policies or public programs for boosting private investment in the agro-food sector in Korea.
Some suggestions resulting from previous studies and discussions with related experts are made as follows: First, the Korean government needs to provide a more attractive environment for private investors. Second, public support programs modifying the current taxation system should be considered. Third, unnecessary regulations to capital investment in the agro-food sector should be abolished.
Suggestions and policy alternatives are limited due to the short period of this study. However, some suggestions may be helpful for policy makers to design appropriate investment policies to develop agro-food industries.
