The privatization of agricultural land was commenced since 1989 in Central
and Eastern European countries(CEE) and Commonwealth of Independent States(CIS).
The restitution of agricultural land to the former owners was the main form
of privatization in CEE except Albania while the distribution with payment to
agricultural workers was prevalent in CIS. But the fragmentation of land or the
large scale of agricultural land compared to that of the advanced countries like
USA and EU countries comes into question.
The privatization experience in CEE and CIS is useful in predicting the
foreseeable process in the North Korea and China.
