The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and Rural Development Administration (RDA) held a Policy Research Council meeting on December 6 at the institute's conference hall to strengthen research cooperation between the two organizations. In his opening speech, KREI President Lee Dong-Phil said that since the signing of a research cooperation agreement with RDA last year there have been active exchanges between them and that he wishes to see even closer research cooperation in the future. In response, Park Hyun-Chool, the Administrator of RDA, said that he, too, wishes to see KREI, a social science research institute, and RDA, a natural science research institute, closely work together and begin solving the heap of problems facing rural Korea.
Kim Wook-Han, chief of the planning and coordination division of RDA's National Institute of Crop Science, delivered a presentation titled "World Food Problems and R&D countermeasures," and Sung Myung-Hwan who is in charge of monitoring and analyzing the grain market at KREI delivered a presentation titled "Food Security Measures in Response to Grain Price Hikes," in which he talked about the recent characteristics of the world grain market, the effects of grain price increases, and Korea's grain market conditions and tasks.
