On July 16, the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted an international workshop with Vietnam on rural development. Ho Xuan Hung, Vietnam’s vice minister of agriculture and rural development, met with KREI President Oh Se-Ik to discuss issues of mutual concern. During the meeting, which was held prior to the workshop, Vice Minister Ho Xuan Hung showed his keen interest in the Korean experience of rural development. President Oh in return said that after seeing Vietnamese farmers working diligently during his recent visit to Vietnam he became highly hopeful about the future of Vietnam’s rural development and that KREI would step up its cooperation with IPSARD (Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development) and other related organizations. KREI’s Vice President Park Seong-Jae presided over the workshop and Heo Jang, director of Asian Agricultural Research Center, delivered a presentation on government policies for rural development and Korea-Vietnam exchange programs.
