The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) jointly held a workshop for high-ranking government officials from Ecuador.
A total of 20 government officials, including a governor, city mayor, and county administrator, participated in the workshop held from May 6 to May 19 to promote rural development in the South American nation.
During the program, the participants took lectures on the economic as well as agricultural and rural development in Korea and learned about the historical background and development strategies of Samaul Movement.
The participants also took time to discuss what lessons can be learned from Korea’s experience. In the meantime, also participating at the discussions were Choi Yang-Boo, former Korean ambassador to Argentina, and Shim Kook-Woong, former Korean ambassador to Ecuador.
Aside from the lectures and discussions, the Ecuadorian officials went on excursions to Gangwon Provincial Office; the Rural Development Administration; Halim Co., a leading supplier of ready-to-cook chickens; a Samaul project site in Naechonri, Gyeonggi Province; and the land reclamation site in Saemangeum.
