KREI to Run Research Task Force for Agricultural Direct Payment Program Reform The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI, President Kim Changgil) announced July 19 that it would set up and operate the Research Task Force for Agricultural Direct Payment Program Reform. The Task Force will be run for five months to seek the direction of reforming agricultural direct payment programs. The major contents of research include analyzing the operation status of agricultural direct payment programs; verifying the validity of introducing direct payment programs for public purposes linked with the public functions of agriculture; and seeking ways to reform variable direct payment programs to stabilize rice farms’ management. The Task Force plans to collect and analyze opinions of experts, policymakers, field activists, etc. by holding policy seminars, expert meetings, and so on, and to share issues with advisors including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, local governments, farmer groups, and specialists in academia and seek effective ways to reform direct payment programs. |
