KREI Had Issue Forum, Performance Presentation:

Various Issues Discussed, Including Agricultural and Rural Job Policy

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held an issue forum and performance presentation on “New Value of Agriculture and Rural Communities” in the press conference room at the Korea Press Center on the 15th. Chairman Seong Kyoungryung of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences attended the event and gave a special lecture titled “Designing a Rural Utopia.” The event was attended by about 150 people including Planning & Coordination Office director Kim Gyeonggyu of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Experts made presentations on the following themes: “The Social Economy and Jobs” in the first session; “Reestablishing the Public Interest Value of Agriculture” in the second session; and “New Southern and New Northern Economic Cooperation in the Agricultural Sector” in the third session.

Discussions followed the presentations of each session. Diverse opinions were presented about the social economy, job creation in the agricultural and rural sectors, the public interest value of agriculture, and the New Southern and New Northern Policies. KREI President Kim Changgil said, “Considering the experts’ opinions on major agricultural policy issues in this forum, KREI will make efforts to seek ways to improve related policies.”
