International Seminar on Small-scale Forestry to Be Held The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) holds the “International Seminar on Improving the Profitability of Forest Management: Small Scale Forestry” in KREI’s main conference room from 1 p.m., Oct. 18. The importance of forestry has increased in the management of healthy forest ecosystems, responses to climate change, and sustainable growth. Forestry-advanced countries in Europe are vitalizing rural and mountain areas through forestry. However, Korea’s forestry is stagnant with low profitability due to rugged terrain and small-scale ownership. Against this background, this international seminar aims to share forestry-advanced nations’ cases and support policies, and discuss measures to apply them to Korea in order to set the policy direction for improving the profitability of small-scale forestry. KREI senior research fellow Min Kyungtaek will make a presentation on small-scale forest management and policy tasks in Korea, and experts from Austria, Germany, and Japan will present each country’s forest management cases. |
