KREI Launched Task Force Team for Measures for Rice Harvest Time

 On September 12, the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) set up a "Task Force for Measures for Rice Harvest Time" to support policies for short-term countermeasures including rice supply-demand plans for the harvest, to seek plans for stabilizing rice supply and demand, and to present the medium- and long-term policy direction. With consecutive bumper crops and the rice overstock problem, an abundant harvest is expected this year too. There are also concerns over rice supply-demand and price instability at harvest time because this year's early cultivated rice prices dropped sharply from last year's. Therefore, KREI launched the Task Force for Measures for Rice Harvest Time to support government plans for the harvest, seek ways to stabilize rice supply and demand and prices in this year's harvest time, and propose the medium- and long-term policy direction. The task force will collect opinions of rice farms, processing companies, and consumers about various ways including the expansion of rice supply for feed and processing, the export of rice and processed rice products, and production control measures as well as short-term countermeasures, and share policy plans. |
