There is an increasing demand from partner countries for learning Korea’s development experiences, including the history of agricultural policy developments in Korea, and technologies for supporting food security and rural and agricultural development for their national advancement and poverty eradication.
To meet the demand of partner countries for agricultural and rural development cooperation, the KREI has been implementing the Korean Agricultural Policy Experiences for Food Security (KAPEX) project with related ministries and research institutes from partner countries since 2013. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), the Republic of Korea, the KAPEX is a policy consulting project which consisted of collaborative research with partner countries, training programs, and workshops, aiming at enhancing partner countries’ institutional capacity in the agricultural and rural development sector and designing potential Official Development Assistance (ODA) programs and projects supported by the Korean government.
As of 2020, 21 policy consultations have been conducted in 15 countries through the KAPEX project. The project has contributed to developing countries’ capability to plan key projects for social and economic development and to establish and implement development policies. ODA programs and projects have been prepared based on the KAPEX program’s joint research results, and ODA project proposals have been submitted to the Korean government.
Post management of KAPEX secures the sustainability of the project and policy consistency and connects the project outcomes to ODA programs and projects, thereby expanding them through partner countries’ policies.
