International Seminar on Strategies and Tasks for Eco-Friendly Livestock Farming

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and Gyeonggi Research Institute (GRI) jointly hosted an international seminar on September 16 at the international conference hall of Gyeonggi Human Development Center. The seminar discussed strategies and tasks for environment-friendly livestock farming. At the opening ceremony, Oh Se-Ik, president of KREI, delivered the welcoming speech, and Hong Sun-Young, president of GRI, delivered the opening speech.
The keynote speakers and speech topics were Brian Jacobsen (senior researcher at the Institute of Food and Resource Economics in Denmark) on strategies for environment-friendly livestock farming based on biogas and efficient livestock waste treatment, Henning Steinfeld (chief of FAO’s Livestock Information and Policy Branch) on choices and strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the livestock sector, J.J. Su (assistant professor at the Department of Animal Science and Technology of Taiwan National University) on policies for green livestock farming and use of biogas in Taiwan, and Gyeon Hong-Su (Chief Official at the Livestock Department of Gyeonggi Province) on livestock waste treatment policy of Gyeonggi Province.
The following panelists took part in the round-up discussions chaired by Prof. Suh Chong-Hyuk of the Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation of Hankyong National University: Prof. Kobayashi Shinichi of Nihon University, Kim Chang-Gil, senior research fellow of KREI, Ahn Hee-Kwon, researcher at National Institute of Animal Science of Rural Development Administration, Lee Soo-Haeng, researcher of Gyeonggi Research Institute, and KREI researcher Jeong Min-Kook.
